How to make a star

Last spring a new physics discovery has made it into the evening news … sustainable nuclear fusion has been reached in the lab. I just mention one example of the echos in the newspapers of those days from the Guardian

 

The method of the experiment is nicely explained by the National Ignition Facility (NIF) under a very impressive title “how to make a star“.

What’s the end of the story? Did we really cooked up a star in the lab? Well, not really!  “The experiment “is a good and necessary step, but there is a long way to go” (Source: Science Magazine , check out the number involved!) … and if this comes from a former NIF director ….
